INT. Elevator – Day
The attached file contains the scene premise/story structure for our experimental film with the working title “INT. Elevator – Day”.
This is an exploration of what it is like having to be stuck in having writer’s block.
Josh – Backstory
This backstory of Josh was created together with our actor, Oliver Seagal. We explored Mike Leigh’s technique of drawing facts/information based on people that the actors knew in their personal life. This exercise was done on Thursday (21/03/19).
Visual Reference – On Screen Script
We decided to see the script, which Josh is stuck on writing, on the screen as the various versions he tries to write are played out. The text is meant to act like a third character – it’ll either be the character speaking or the script that changes/gets written or deleted.
Mrs. Fellini – Backstory
This backstory of Mrs. Fellini was created together with our actress, Lynne Whitaker, while building the character on Thursday (21/03/19).
Meeting the actors
We first met our actors last week (21/03/19) to develop their characters with them in the morning and discuss the current draft of the script. In the afternoon, we had them improvise several versions of the script, without specifically saying the lines of the script. Those improvisations carried on for 5-15 minutes each and we were planning to build the second draft of the script from these videos we recorded. This definitely helped us to open up a little and think about the film in a different, new and fresh way.
Elevator Lighting Plan V2
This second lighting plan is on the basis of using only one wall. I have also included an LED Panel, which when used with the dimmer, will replicate outdoor light spilling into the lift when the door opens/closes, adding to the believability. Because of the kit limitations, if we aren’t able to use the LED, we will use a 650W with CTB and a dimmer, bouncing into a Poly.

Post Production Reference – Camera Shake
We intend to use camera shake to add to the realism of the lift and to suggest it getting stuck. This will be done In post production following a similar technique to this example.
