Since the first draft of the Story Outline missed out on quite a few bits about the “message” of the whole story, we started asking ourselves what it actually is that genuinely interests us about it. Furthermore, we tried to give it a deeper meaning/purpose.
Firstly, we talked to our directing teacher – we assumed that working with an actor, who needs to pull off different characters believably would be a challenge for itself. This is why we asked for her advice. This meeting was not only helpful in terms of this question but also clarified a lot of things regarding how the story would evolve.
We then tried to approach the story structure from a different angle. That means: not using the exact same turning points. Until now we only had one single “punchline” that the whole film was building up to – i.e. “being lost in character”. We rather wanted to explore the “being lost” aspect, so we tried to tie this in more. Furthermore, we also thought that it might be easier only having our protagonist being lost in one specific character, rather than swapping characters constantly.
